Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Business Development will be responsible for internal and external business development activities of the Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). This role reports to the VP of Business Development in OTD

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a typical office environment. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree, preferably in chemistry or biological science, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
* Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development activities in a healthcare, research or venture capital setting
* Experience and demonstration of success in operating in large, complex organizations and in a complex research/technology-oriented environment
* Effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills
* A strong and demonstrated skill set in communication, articulation, and distillation of complex issues to multiple types of stakeholders
* Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity, complexity, multiple demands, multiple sources of input, and change while providing steady leadership
* High ethical standards in carrying out institutional responsibilities
* Advanced analytical and reporting skills
* Ability to work with competing and shifting priorities in a matrix structure
* Excellent follow-through skills and the ability to operate independently
* Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and possess a solid working knowledge of various accounting software systems
