Lead a team of up to 30 Directors, Senior Advisors, Advisors, Analysts and external contractors. Responsible for driving CVS’ Sales and improve Profitability across the retail business. Provide fact-based and data-driven guidance to Category Managers in selecting vendors, brands, and SKUs that result in increased sales and profit. Responsible in using Pricing, Marketing, Product Promotions and improvements in Supply Chain to improve margin and/or drive sales. Responsible for providing thought leadership and overall guidance to team, by leveraging a keen understanding of CVS' product categories, vendor dynamics, assortment economics, retail strategy, negotiation strategy and tactics. Serve as thought partner to the Merchandising VPs and Sr. Directors during assortment reviews and vendor negotiations. Lead development of annual priorities such as sales and margin budgets, forecasts and annual plans by working with senior Merchandising leadership.
Lead team to identify sales growth, cost reduction, and profit improvement opportunities across SKUs and vendors through rigorous analysis and research, including: competitive benchmarking (space, brands, SKUs), market and customer insights (surveys, Extracare analysis), vendor insight (cost structures, motivations), and extensive SKU/brand/vendor-level analysis (relative productivity, profitability, brand loyalty, SKU transferability, pricing, promotions etc.). Analyze internal and external data sources to identify, refine and size potential growth opportunities. Identify, create, and develop new concepts/opportunities that are aligned to future state vision. Develop robust business cases to support and prioritize new concepts/opportunities. Develop presentations to communicate vision and concepts/opportunities to all levels of the organization. Engage & influence leaders across CVS functions to build alignment around retail strategy vision, design and implementation. Lead advanced analytics and data science team to deliver in retail/fast pace environments, using data to drive business decision making, mapping customer behavior and drivers of behaviors to buying behavior, and a hypothesis driven approach to analytics that can create structure. Manage team & oversee development of analytical materials to be shared internally during category reviews and assortment discussions with the Merchandising team. Manage team & oversee development of "Ask" materials to be shared with vendors during negotiations. Provide direct vendor negotiations support to Merchants, including serving as lead negotiator where needed. Manage processes to ensure that CVS is not receiving cost increases and that CVS receives cost decreases commensurate with commodity price drops. Manage team & oversee development of promotional and pricing plans to ensure CVS meets its aggressive financial targets on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. Partner with merchandising and vendors to develop differentiated promotion plans and events. Evolve our best-in-class promotion, pricing and merchandising effectiveness tools, analytics and reports to deliver incremental value to the business. Manage sourcing tools and processes (eg, RFPs, eAuctions) to ensure selection of best vendors for Store Brand and other commoditized products (considering cost, quality, value, availability, etc). Enhance and enforce documentation, archiving, and audit processes for agreements with vendors. Develop annual plans and budgets for category profit improvement, working with the Merchandising leadership team. Work on special projects, ad hoc analysis, and initiatives related to assortment performance and cost reduction and management. Successfully work on cross-enterprise and business-unit specific initiatives linked to company’s strategic imperatives. Successfully manage special projects that impact the entire organization and/or key business-unit partner, with a demonstrated experience in generating strategy or change initiatives. Required Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field and 6 years of experience in Retail and Consulting, including 2 years of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. Must also have 2 years of experience in Predictive Analytics/Modelling; Tableau; SQL; Database Management; Teradata; and Oracle.
