Description

This job family provides customers with customized information regarding points of interest, and attractions. Sells hotel, car rental, land/rail/air/packages and cruises, as well as other products within the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. May promote or sell international travel packages.

Responsible for generating sales and achieving Vacation Sales Specialist sales goals on all travel and NCNU products and services. Provides outstanding customer service to members. Participates in travel promotions, events, marketing activities and performs cross-sales and up-sales of all NCNU products and services. Educates customers on most effective means to access NCNU products and services across all distribution channels.

Fully qualified and demonstrates specialized expertise in all aspects of domestic and international travel and NCNU products and services. Incumbents work under limited supervision, are able to make customer service decisions independently. Applies judgment and knowledge of the job to resolve wide range of moderately difficult issues.

Promotes and sells international cruises, tours, air, rail packages, and foreign independent travel. Provides required information including passports, visas, vaccinations, foreign exchange rates, customs requirements and International Driving Permits. Qualifies client needs through consultative sales techniques to best match the product to the client. Researches complex travel rules and regulations. Researches and handles complex or difficult travel related customer complaints or problems.

* Promotes and sells group travel.
* Sells travel insurance ("trip assist") - add to all levels
* Researches, evaluates, and compares appropriate vendor packages.
* Promotes, sells and upgrades memberships
* Expected to cross sell other NCNU products and services.

Participates in local marketing activities (travel fair, member appreciation day, off-site travel events) and performs out-bound sales calls.

Orders brochures and provides assistance with various support duties.

Works in an office environment sitting at a desk, table or computer workstation for extended periods of time. May travel by car, plane or other form of transportation to attend business meetings or conferences. Approximately 50-80 percent of the time spent on the job involves the use of a personal computer.

Qualifications

Required:
* Comprehensive knowledge of international geography
* Outstanding communications skills and the ability to communicate verbally, in writing, in person and over the telephone. Good command of the English language.
* Knowledge of North America geography, the ability to read and interpret maps and brochures
* Proven achievement of sales goals
* Solves and diffuses difficult situations
* Ability to attend off-site training
* Ability to sell travel insurance
* Must be willing to work non-standard hours (nights and weekends)
* High school graduate or equivalent required
* Extensive knowledge of NCNU Foundation Skill Set required
* Extensive knowledge of NCNU Foundation Skill Set. Extensive knowledge of NCNU products and services required

Preferred:

* Extensive knowledge of NCNU preferred/approved vendors
* Extensive knowledge of travel systems and desktop
* Bilingual communication skills
* Completion of or willing to obtain one or more of the following certification programs: Destination Specialist (DS), Certified Travel Associate (CTA), CTC and Associate Cruise Counselor (ACC)
* Two years in travel industry to include cruise and tour sales.
* Personal travel experience
