Position Overview
The Pre-Sales Engineer (PSE) supports sales productivity and deal flow by securing the technical close in complex solutions. The PSE is responsible for supporting all phases of A123 s Sales Process, including but not limited to reviewing specifications and preparing comments, proposal development, customer submittal preparation, providing equipment functionality and capability reports to the sales force and acting as technical liaison between the outside sales team, Applications Engineering, and Production.

Primary Responsibilities

* Support sales team on proposal and solutions to customers.
* Proactively scopes the technical solution required to address customer requirements, assesses customers met and unmet needs, and recommends solutions that optimize value for both the customer and A123 Systems.
* Secures input from all necessary stakeholders within the customer company. Adapts solutions, as necessary, to ensure appropriate support.
* Secures from customer technical staff commitments needed to ensure a deal s technical close.
* Support customer presentations and clarifications.
* Support sales in tendering and bidding process.

Specific Skills/Abilities
This position entails managing and driving the technology process with sales process. You will be responsible for working closely with the sales team to secure technical product wins. You will be expected to actively participate in day to day sales activities. As the technical liaison between the sales team and Applications Engineering, you must insure prospect satisfaction through diagnosis and resolution of technical issues. In order to thrive in this role, the candidate will bring a working knowledge of the data center and/or telecom industry from both a products perspective and a customer requirements perspective.

Education/Experience

* 3 to 5 years experience as a Pre-Sales engineer
* Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering, or related field
* Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products using Phase-Gate methodology
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision
* Technical background, with experience in batteries highly preferred
* Excellent teamwork skills
* Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
* This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America, Europe and Asia (>25%).
* Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
* Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Solidworks
